Biography:
Dr. Kohei OTOMO graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tohoku University in 2004 and received his Ph.D. (Pharmaceutical Science) from the same university in 2009. Through Ph.D. dissertation research utilizing UV resonant Raman spectroscopic analysis of biomolecules, he came to have an interest in how spectroscopy, microscopy, and/or optical technologies reveal micro/nanostructures of life. He thus started technological developing researches of optical systems for biological specimens after getting a Ph.D. Particularly in these several years, he focused on multi-photon excitation fluorescent microscopy and succeeded in several functional improvements utilizing novel optical technologies; super-resolution microscopy, multi-beam scanning methodology, wavefront modulations, nano-materials, etc. Based on such expertise, he is now developing novel visualization methods for systems biomedicine.
